What is Custom Mix?
Custom Mix lets you manually control how much of each music type is played on a channel. When Custom Mix is enabled, slider controls are displayed under each music definition. Move a slider to the
right to hear more of that music on the channel. Move to the left to hear less. A percentage is displayed to the left of the slider indicating
the weight of that music for the channel. Adjust the sliders to the desired amount for each music type.
Note: Custom Mix is only available when two or more music definitions are present.
Can I use a remote control with Channels?
Yes. Channels responds to standard remote control commands. These commands can be sent from the buttons on the lockscreen or from third party accessories such as headphones, Bluetooth remote controls, and in-car Bluetooth controls.
Note: The Previous/Next behavior can be customized on the Settings page. Choose one of the following:
The following commands are supported:
- Play - Starts playback
- Pause - Stops or pauses playback
- Previous - Moves to the previous channel or rewinds the current song to the beginning.
- Next - Moves to the next channel or skips to the next song.
Note: The Previous/Next behavior can be customized on the Settings page. Choose one of the following:
- Change Channels (Default)
- Rewind/Skip
When set to Change Channels, the Previous/Next behavior will also be affected by the currently selected channel view. For example,
if you're in List View (All), changing channels remotely will navigate through all channels. If you're in Grid View (Presets), changing
channels remotely will only navigate through your preset channels.
When set to Rewind/Skip, the Previous button will rewind the current song to the beginning. The Next button will skip to the next song on the channel.
I see a warning message on one of my channels. How do I fix this?
A warning will appear when no music can be found in the library that matches the music definitions for the channel or if the only matching songs are
DRM-protected. Delete the channel or update the music definitions to resolve the warning.
Are DRM-protected songs supported?
No. DRM-protected songs are not supported. If your library contains older, DRM-protected
songs, Channels will automatically skip over them. If the music defined for a channel only
matches DRM-protected songs from your library, a warning message will appear on the channel. Delete the channel or update the music definitions to resolve the warning.
Tips
iTunes Library
Channels uses song metadata from your iTunes library to organize your channels. If you hear a song on a channel that you weren't expecting or if you never hear a song on a channel that should play it, check the properties of the song in your iTunes library. You may need to update some of the song's properties and resync it to your device.
Greatest Hits/Compilations/Re-Issues
Greatest hits, compilations, and re-issued albums can cause problems for a well-organized iTunes library. The song year and other metadata are often not set to the values
you want displayed in your library. When this happens, it can take a while to get your iTunes library cleaned up. In the meantime, create a playlist in iTunes for those
songs and sync it to your device. Then use the playlist when creating a new channel.
